Volendam museum
In the Volendams Museum you can see how work and lived at the end of the 19th century and in the first 50 years of the 20th century. In the museum visitors get to see how Volendam gained great fame thanks to the many artists, painters and draughtsmen who visited the village for a short or longer period and distributed their paintings and drawings around the world. But in the Volendams museum there is much more to see than just the collection of paintings of the international painting colony. You will find an exhibition of volendamse and national costumes and jewellery. A collection of drawings, sculptures, pottery, photographs and postcards. A collection of literary and musical art forms. You'll find truthful old interiors and a cigar band house with mosaics and decorations of 11 million cigar bands. Fishing with its side farms is on display. Expressions of folk art and house art are displayed and there is a cinema room in which varying images can be seen.
